VAUNE AINSWORTH
Vaune Ainsworth creates expressive abstract paintings in her studio in Blaine, WA. She
began painting and showing her work decades ago while teaching and studying creative
process. She has recently returned to painting after more than 30 years working as a
psychologist and educator.
Ainsworth’s abstract works arise from an intuitive process of flow, informed by her
experiences as a psychologist. Painting becomes a dance of surrender and trust, a
journey into the unknown. Vaune prefers working on large sheets of paper or yards of
raw canvas using paints, powders, inks with enough water to keep the work alive,
malleable and changing. Often pieces are torn or cut and reconstructed into new works.
Some of Ainsworth’s paintings offer invitations into inner landscapes of vulnerability and
transformation. Others open to the outer world of seen and unseen patterns and
energies. Works retain their rawness with stains, seams, uneven edges left visible,
honoring the beauty of impermanence and imperfection.
